The year 2022 has already been off to a great start for revived video game franchises that had been inactive for some time. After a hiatus of five years, the second game in the Horizon series, titled The Horizon Forbidden West, was finally made available to video game players in February of this year. What a triumphant return to form it turned out to be. Up to this point, Horizon: Forbidden West has been met with universal acclaim, with several reviewers hailing it as a masterpiece in their respective fields.

However, there are still various gaming series that need a new edition. The following is a list of franchises that have been fully dormant for a considerable amount of time:

Condemned Series

The Condemned series, created by Monolith Productions, is widely regarded as the best horror survival game series to come out in the 2000s yet is sometimes overlooked because of this. Both Condemned: Criminal Origins (2005) and Condemned 2 (2006) were video games in the Condemned series (2008). For a horror-survival game, the pace and level of activity in both Condemned titles are impressively high.

The Condemned video games include outstanding audio design, and the story’s various moments of tension are expertly timed. Neither of the Condemned games became blockbusters, and the series as a whole has been largely forgotten. Perhaps the moment has come to give this horror franchise some love and possibly bring it back to life.

The Simpsons

The Simpsons, co-created by Matt Groening, is an iconic American animated sitcom that has aired for over two decades. The cartoon show depicts the comedic family drama of a working-class father, Homer Simpson, and his kids. The Simpsons have become cultural icons over the years. It would be possible to spin off an entirely new series based on the inventiveness of certain Simpsons episodes and spinoffs.

Despite the show’s gold status, few are aware that the Simpsons also have an adventure game. Originally released in 2007, Visceral Games’ video game has five playable Simpsons family members: Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. As they go through the game’s levels, they’ll unlock a variety of superpowers that will be necessary to overcome various problems.

The Metal Gear Solid

The Metal Gear Solid series is one of the longest-running video game franchises, and it’s also responsible for some of the best stealth gameplay ever. The gameplay of this action-adventure survival series is more focused on stealth than on fast-paced combat, and the graphics are groundbreaking. The series also features solid stories influenced by Hollywood films.

Players assume the role of US super-agent Commander Snake in every Metal Gear Solid game. Metal Gear Solid games put players in a world where they must fight for their very survival, and where there are a variety of strategies for accomplishing the same goal (whether that be completing a mission or eliminating adversaries). How the participants conduct themselves is entirely up to them.

Metal Gear Survive, released in 2018, was the final game in a popular action-adventure survival series. Even while most of the gameplay from previous Metal Gear Solid games returns, the latest installment has been panned for its shoddy story development and uninteresting character histories. It’s high time for Metal Gear Solid to right its wrongs and make a powerful comeback.

Spyro the Dragon

The Spyro video game series is a fun, accessible 3D platform adventure that chronicles the exploits of the titular dragon. The Spyro video game series has had multiple sequels to Spyro the Dragon and a reboot trilogy since the initial game was launched in 1998.

Spyro the Dragon was developed during a period when Activision was putting out a plethora of spinoff titles. One of the best ancillary games ever made was Spyro the Dragon.

Even though it was an absolute gem of a 3D adventure game, this one never quite became as successful as it should have. With the rise of mobile gaming, the 3D adventure genre is ripe for Spyro the Dragon to rule.

The Virtua Tennis

The Virtua Tennis series is widely regarded as the pinnacle of tennis video game simulation. The third installment, 2011’s Virtua Tennis 4, was the apex of the series. Some gamers, like Andy Murray, a professional tennis player from the United Kingdom, believe that Virtua Tennis 4 is the most faithful simulation of the sport ever created for a video game.

In the World Tour Edition of Virtua Tennis 4, gamers may experience what it’s like to travel the globe in the role of real-life tennis pros. The turn-based campaign map of the World Tour Edition lets players create their tennis superstar and compete in tournaments all around the world, from local qualifiers to the Grand Slams.

The Virtua Tennis franchise is still owned by SEGA, the company that created it. Nonetheless, there has been no announcement of a new Virtua Tennis game. In the world of video games, Virtua Tennis is one of the most underappreciated that desperately needs a comeback.
